| How
to Land Publicity during the Holidays |
 |
|
As a fitness professional there is no better
time of year to land some “media hits”
than during the holiday season. Your local media
outlets will all be looking for tips and tricks
to help their readers, viewers or listeners,
depending on the medium, stay fit and stress-
free from Thanksgiving through
|
New Year’s Day. Please realize the media is always
looking for fresh ideas and “angles” on old
themes. The more unique you can be the better chance you
have of landing in the news!
Here are some unique ideas you can use to obtain some
massive free exposure and untold amounts of credibility
for you and your fitness business:
1) Millions and millions of people will be shopping
in malls. That means hours and hours of walking. Be
sure to let the media know you can be quoted as an expert
on what type of footwear should be worn and how improper
shoes can lead to injuries.
2) Take a strong stance. Let the public know how you
really feel about New Year’s Resolutions and why
they don’t last. Don’t be afraid to have
a strong opinion and let it be known. That is what makes
the great ones great.
3) Don’t just talk about relieving holiday stress.
Talk about the extensive damage it causes to the body
and how it can cause “toxic” fat gain.
4) Promote “cheat” or “guilt-free”
days. It’s similar to allowing a client one day
per week to allow them to eat what they want. But in
the case of the holidays they can pick one holiday party
where they misbehave with the understanding the rest
of the week they will be good little boys and girls.
5) Visualization techniques. Much like an athlete visualizes
their success before a game you can advise the public
to picture themselves after the holidays in great health
and the same weight, or less, than before the season
began.
6) Discourage the traditional office party complete
with alcohol and high calorie foods. Instead recommend
companies do everyone some good by bringing all employees
together to volunteer at a soup kitchen or Habitat for
Humanity. The money that would have been used for the
party can be given as bonuses or donated to charity
instead.
So how do you let the media know about all your great
ideas? Simple, you email or call them and let them know
about them. Believe me; they are counting on you as
an expert to come up with exciting, timely, and relevant
content their readers, listeners or viewers will love!
