After 16
years of playing soccer, I was not going to let
a hip injury keep me from participating in physical
activity. Through the constant encouragement of
friends and family, I decided to take on the fitness
world. I had considered fitness a lifestyle and
therefore, for me, it was about setting a goal of
competing in FAME International Fitness Model Search
2004 and sticking to it. As well, I consulted in
some nutritionists and fellow personal trainers
for advice on what to do!! From there…..it
was all up to me! |
The one aspect of training that sticks out of my mind
is the “no expectations” rule. I went into
the competition without any expectations placed on myself.
I did not expect myself to place high, but I expected
myself to train as a true champion. Simply sticking
to a new goal and getting up on stage and having all
the hard work come together in front of the judges was
my test of dedication and commitment to my love of fitness
and activity. In the end, I was happy to have both a
great placement and a goal accomplished!!
As a future physical education teacher, I can look
back on this and teach my students not only about the
physical benefits and gratification of fitness, but
also how amazing it is to set a goal and achieve it!!
But beware….after this experience with the WNSO;
it is almost a guarantee that you will see me up on
stage again next year. It is just too great of a feeling
to compete just once!!
