Growing
up, I had always been a tomboy. I loved playing
baseball, floor hockey, swimming, and loved to watch
boxing with my dad. When I was 15 years old, our
high school P.E. teacher introduced us to weight
training. Ever since then I was hooked! I kept training
through the years, using fitness magazines for information.
When my husband and I decided to start a family,
I made it a priority to stay strong and healthy
during my pregnancies. I weight trained, swam, walked
and did Yoga.
I purchased a home gym and jogger stroller, so I
could work out at home with my children. I tried
to make them as involved with my workouts as possible.
I got them soup cans when they were old enough to
pretend that they were weights and brought them
to my Muay Thai Kickboxing classes as much as I
could. Training when you have children is not easy
but it’s a priority for me to make healthy
living a family affair.

After suffering injuries
from a car accident in 2002, I had to start my training
again from scratch, dropping my weights very low,
doing only basic exercises and could not run without
severe pain.
I was still nursing my youngest at the time, so
I could not take heavy medication to ease the pain.
It was a long process, involving chiropractic and
massage care, taking almost two years to get my
training back to the level it was previously at. |
This past year we moved to Northern Ontario from
British Columbia, and to help me adjust to the change,
I decided to get serious about competing. For years
I had admired fitness competitors like Monica Brant
and reading Margaret Diubaldo’s story made
me realize that I should go for it!
So, I hired a personal trainer Gary Aguto, from
Elite Physique Personal Training, and he worked
with me via email and phone calls. I ended up placing
85th out of 230 women in the Fitness Model Search
at FAME.
My husband and children were there to cheer me on
and it was the best feeling in the world. Without
their love and support, I would have never made
it.
My next goals are to compete in Figure and possibly
train for bodybuilding next year. Whatever I decide,
I want to pass on to my children the joy and satisfaction
of leading a healthy lifestyle, and the fulfillment
you receive by going for your dreams. |
